Calgary Branch Alumni Celebration featuring the Johnson Award

We're welcoming the »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's community in Calgary, including family and friends, to come together for this special event to welcome incoming »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's students, welcome back recent graduates, and honour an exceptional member of our community through the presentation of the 2025 Calgary Branch Johnson Award.

Join us as we take over Seasons of Bowness Park for the day to celebrate the »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's spirit and enjoy:

  • delicious casual barbecue fare;
  • tasty beverages, including a special tricolour cocktail and mocktail;
  • fun activities for the whole family.

The highlight of the day will be the presentation of the 2025 Calgary Branch Johnson Award to Don MacDiarmid, Sc'82. Don is receiving the award for his contributions to Calgary, his total engagement in the »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's alumni community, and his role as an ambassador for »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's through his notable career and lifelong community service. Don is a Sc'82 Reunion Planner and a former Calgary Branch President and we are delighted to be able to highlight his contributions as we come together as a community.

Bring the whole family and inspire the next generation of »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's alumni! Please note that this event will take place rain or shine, and we are planning both indoor and outdoor activities as the weather allows.

About our 2025 Johnson Award Recipient

Don MacDiarmid, Sc'82

The Calgary Branch Johnson Award is being presented to Donald MacDiarmid, Sc'82, for his contributions to Calgary, his total engagement in the »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's alumni community, and his role as an ambassador for »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's through his notable career and lifelong community service.

Don earned his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's and later completed a law degree at Dalhousie University. His lengthy career in the energy industry spanned both engineering and law.

Beyond his career, Don has made a point of giving back to his communities. He has volunteered extensively in Calgary, including for the Calgary Centre for Newcomers, the Bow Valley Green Energy Cooperative, and as a coach for minor soccer. Don's dedication as a »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's volunteer has spanned over four decades, including roles as a Sc'82 Reunion Planner, »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's Alumni Calgary Branch President, and a member of University Council.
