�ʹ�����’s University and Fudan University, one of China’s leading research and education institutions, have had a strong relationship for more than two decades. It began with a partnership in 2000 to enable student exchange opportunities between the two schools and promote international research collaboration. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the agreement, a delegation from Fudan recently came to Kingston to meet with senior leaders and discuss new horizons for cooperation.

The visit culminated in the signing of a new letter of intent by Principal Patrick Deane and Fudan University President Jin Li, who led the visiting delegation. The letter agreed to expand areas of collaboration, including with Fudan’s prestigious Institute for Global Public Policy, which already collaborates extensively with the London School of Economics. Principal Deane also presented Dr. Jin with a crystal commemorating Fudan’s 120th anniversary.

“Fudan University was the first formal institutional partner for �ʹ�����’s in mainland China and it was an honour to host their esteemed delegation,” says Principal Deane. “Over the past quarter of a century this partnership has grown in strength and scope, delivering meaningful benefits to both institutions.”

There are many active agreements in place between �ʹ�����’s and Fudan, including programs for faculty and student exchanges as well as dual degree programs. More �ʹ�����’s students have studied a Fudan than at any other Chinese partner, with more than 100 students participating in the Semester in Shanghai Program. There are also ongoing research collaborations, which have produced more than 40 publications in the last five years.

Fudan is one of China’s premier research universities, ranked in the top 5 nationally and 36 and 39 in the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings, respectively.

“Meeting with the delegation from Fudan enabled us to think together about the institutional priorities we have in common as well as the many opportunities we have to deepen our partnership, not least to advance our collaboration on the SDGs,” says Vice-Provost, Global Engagement Sandra den Otter. “We are grateful to the delegation for making this visit, and �ʹ�����’s looks forward to the next 25 years of collaboration.”
