Michaela Sapielak is a second-year PhD student working under the supervision of Dr. Jeffrey McNairn. Her research interests include nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Canadian political history and biography, as well as women’s roles in elite political culture. Her doctoral research examines the spouses of Canadian federal politicians from the mid-nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries and will consider these women’s contributions to their husbands’ political careers, as well as how these women embodied or challenged gender roles in their navigation of political spaces.
