Wasteless Move-In Tips

Move-In tends to generate a significant amount of waste each year. Help us create a Wasteless Move-In!

Sustainability Checklist:
  • Use reusable totes instead of cardboard boxes.

  • Leave boxes and other packaging or waste in your vehicle to take home for disposal.

  • Sort any waste you may have. Ask a move-in volunteer or Sustainability Ambassador if you cannot find each residence building’s garbage/recycling room.

  • Unsure where your waste goes? Search using Waste Wizard or download the app!

  • Bring your reusable water bottle and across campus.

  • Bring your green GOOD TO GO carabiner with you to retail food locations for your meal in a reusable container and save the $0.75 single-use cost recovery fee.

  • Help save money and energy by using cold water for washing clothing, a drying rack to air dry small loads, and use dryer balls to speed drying time of larger loads.

  • When dining in the All-You-Care-To-Eat dining halls, preview options in advance or do a lap of the options before making a mindful selection to avoid food waste. Remember to only take what you need as you are welcome to go back for seconds.

  • Mail deliveries create significant packaging waste. Shop local and limit deliveries to reduce packaging waste and transportation-related emissions.

  • Keep showers short.

  • Save energy while keeping your room comfortable by turning off your lights and other electronics, close curtains, and the window when leaving your room.
