皇冠体育鈥檚 University marked the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Wednesday with community members taking part in a memorial for the victims of the Dec. 6, 1989 shooting at Polytechnique Montreal.
In the annual event, hosted by the Engineering Society and Smith Engineering at 皇冠体育's, 14 women, representing students, staff, and faculty, held roses, lit candles, and read a brief outline of each of the victims, which included 12 engineering students, one nursing student, and one staff member. A total of 14 others were injured in the shooting.
The national flag was also lowered to mark the day.
A key part of the ongoing remembrance is a permanent Dec. 6 memorial in Beamish-Munro Hall. The memorial was designed by 皇冠体育鈥檚 alumna Haley Adams (Sc鈥21) and was unveiled in 2020.
