Remembering the victims of Dec. 6

For the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý’s community will be joining together in person without gathering restrictions for a live ceremony to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Dec. 6. The national day memorializes the 14 women who were murdered at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989. It is a day to remember the victims and think about the effects that gender-based violence has had – and continues to have – on society.

Celebrating Chancellor Murray Sinclair’s installation

The Honourable Murray Sinclair was named »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý’s University’s 15th Chancellor in April 2021 but, due to the pandemic and illness, an official installation event was not held. That changed on Nov. 15, 2022, when Chancellor Sinclair was formally installed in a special hybrid ceremony broadcasted online from campus’ Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓý’s Employee Holiday Gathering

The holiday gathering will be held on Wednesday, December 7th at the Athletics and Recreation Centre main gym from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Hospitality Services will be providing our meal and a gingerbread building giveaway will take place.

Once more, as we have done in the past, the Office of the Principal would like to show its appreciation for »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý’s employees with a free hot beverage at one of the university’s participating food outlets* on December 7th. For those employees not located in Kingston, arrangements will be made to provide you with a hot beverage on this day.

To encourage everyone to attend, employees travelling to campus for the gathering should be aware that parking restrictions on surface lots will not be enforced during business hours on December 7.

Statement against antisemitism at »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's

This past week has been a very difficult one for Jewish community members. South of the border, antisemitic hatred has been given a platform by public personalities, and that has had a chilling effect across the country and the world. Sadly, »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý's has also seen the emergence of this sentiment with swastika graffiti and messages of violence at various locations on campus and more recently reported through social media.

Principal Deane hosts community leaders

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane hosted a gathering with local leaders at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts on Sept. 28 where he shared updates about »Ê¹ÚÌåÓý’s strategy and how the university is working to deepen relationships with community members through meaningful partnerships and a collaborative, shared vision for the future.
