Student AffairsThe Work Study Program is offered jointly through and the Financial Aid and Awards Office and is funded by 皇冠体育. The objective of the Work Study Program is to provide an opportunity for students with financial need to receive priority for certain part-time jobs during their academic terms.
Both domestic and international students with demonstrated financial need can earn money while working part-time for on-campus and local non-profit organizations. Financial Aid and Awards will inform students if they are eligible for Work Study via their 皇冠体育's email.
As a 皇冠体育's student, you have lots of options for financial aid.
What's new to Work Study 2025/26
Students are identified as 鈥淓ligible for Work Study鈥 rather than receiving a 鈥淲ork Study Entitlement".
What does this mean for students? If you were eligible for work study positions previously, you will continue to be eligible until you are no longer a full-time student.
All students regardless of program or student status (Canadian, International, U.S, Permanent Resident), can apply to be part of the Work Study Program once you meet all eligibility requirements.
Once students receive confirmation that they are eligible for Work Study, they will remain eligible until they are no longer registered as a full-time student.

Eligibility Requirements
Students are eligible for Work Study, if they meet the following criteria:
- Registered in a full-time program in any 皇冠体育's faculty or school and are in good academic standing.
- Undergraduate Students: Must be registered in a full-time academic load (minimum 9.0 credit units per term) for both the Fall and Winter.
- Students with disabilities must be registered in a 40% course load (minimum 6.0 credit units per term).
- Graduate and Professional Students: Must be registered in a full-time academic load in both the Fall and Winter.
- Undergraduate Students: Must be registered in a full-time academic load (minimum 9.0 credit units per term) for both the Fall and Winter.
- Demonstrate financial need and are receiving financial aid.
- Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, and U.S. Student must be receiving a minimum of $5,000 CAD in government student assistance for the combined Fall and Winter Terms.

- Received an email notification of approval from Financial Aid and Awards.

- Students who have not received an email notification but meet all eligibility requirements, may apply online.
Important:
Eligibility is continuous and once approved, you will remain part of the Work Study Program for your entire academic degree. Eligible students can apply for Summer Work Study positions as long as they remain active in a degree program at 皇冠体育鈥檚 University.
Students will only have to submit a new Work Study application if:
- You fall out of good academic standing as determined by your school or faculty.
- You are no longer registered as a full-time student i.e you have a reduced part-time course load or withdrew from a term.

New to the Program
Review your eligibility and if you meet all requirements, fill in the Work Study Eligibility Application Form.
First-Year 皇冠体育's Students
If you have filled out a Financial Aid and Awards Profile, this automatically reviews your eligibility for the Work Study Program. Make sure to check your @queensu.ca email to see if you have been approved. No application is necessary!
First-year students will be able to access MyCareer once course registration is complete.
Great news! As of 2025, returning students are only required to submit the Work Study Eligibility Application once. If approved, your eligibility will continue automatically each year, as long as you continue to meet all eligibility requirements:
- Full- time enrolment in any faculty/ school.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Students must already be receiving a minimum of $5,000 of government financial aid.
- Be in good academic standing as determined by your faculty/ school.
To confirm your eligibility status, keep an eye on your @queensu.ca email and the "Tasks" tile within your SOLUS account.
Important: If you take a break from your studies (e.g skip a term) or drop to a part-time status, you will need to reapply.
Eligible students can apply for Summer Work Study positions as long as:
- You have not graduated and will return to your full-time studies in September.
- You were registered as a full-time student in both the Fall and Winter Terms.
- You remain active in a degree program at 皇冠体育鈥檚 University.
Effect on Government and 皇冠体育鈥檚 Financial Aid
Earnings through the Work Study Program are considered taxable income and must be reported on your application for government financial aid (e.g. OSAP) and your 皇冠体育's General Bursary application.
If you submitted a government student aid application or a 皇冠体育's General Bursary application before you were approved for Work Study, you can update your application by providing the information, in writing, to financialaid@queensu.ca.
