Principal鈥檚 Global Fellows Fund
The Principal鈥檚 Global Fellows Fund provides up to C$10,000 for 皇冠体育鈥檚 faculty members and their counterparts in 皇冠体育鈥檚 strategic priority regions for expanding partnerships (Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, and Southeast Asia) to collaborate for the purposes of advancing an academic, research, student learning, or scholarly initiative.
Faculty members from the partner university will be designated Principal鈥檚 Global Fellows.
Funding
- Sliding scale of C$1,000 to C$10,000, depending on the budget rationale.
- Normally, no more than C$5,000 for travel, accommodation, and meals for inbound Principal鈥檚 Global Fellow and (if applicable) reciprocal travel by 皇冠体育鈥檚 faculty member.
Timelines
- Project to be completed within a year.
- Non-renewable.
Eligible Costs
- Inbound travel, accommodation, meals, visa, and UHIP costs for inbound faculty members to come to 皇冠体育鈥檚 for stays of between two weeks and four months.
- Reciprocal travel for 皇冠体育鈥檚 faculty members can also be included.
- Eligible travel expenses to be governed by 皇冠体育鈥檚 Travel and Expense Reimbursement policy.
- Convening costs.
- Program development costs (to vary by project)
- Funds may be transferred to partner university for expenses, as governed by 皇冠体育鈥檚 policies and national and provincial regulations, where permitted. Please note that there are restrictions on transferring of funds and applicants should consult VPGE before including in the budget.
Ineligible Costs
- Costs strictly associated with research (for example, equipment or software).
- Financial compensation or scholarships for students.
- Outbound travel by 皇冠体育鈥檚 faculty member only.
- Honoraria or salary payment to the Principal鈥檚 Global Fellow.
- 皇冠体育鈥檚 applicant must be a tenure-track or tenured faculty member at 皇冠体育鈥檚 University.
- Co-applicant(s) must be a faculty member or hold another relevant academic appointment at a recognized university in Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, or Southeast Asia.
- Early career researchers (within 10 years of completion of doctoral studies) are especially encouraged to apply.
The project must produce a co-developed deliverable within one year of receiving funding and can include, but is not limited to:
- Preparation for and application to an international research grant
- Collaborative online international learning program (COIL)/virtual mobility program
- Development of cotutelles, and other forms of graduate level teaching collaboration
- Coordination and implementation of an outbound faculty-led student mobility program
- Summer or field school development and delivery (e.g. revenue generating micro-credential or cohort-based program at Bader College involving a global partner)
- Co-developed workshop
- Knowledge mobilization activities
The deliverable should be a new initiative that has not received funding from 皇冠体育鈥檚.
Applications are assessed on their ability to demonstrate that they will:
- Involve collaboration with a recognized university in Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia and Southeast Asia, with preference for strategic priority partners (see Appendix One), or collaborations related to global engagement and Indigenous Peoples with universities outside of Canada.
- Advance one or more objectives of the 皇冠体育鈥檚 Global Engagement Strategic Plan.
- Contribute to excellence in the student learning experience, research, and/or scholarly activity.
- Deepen collaboration between 皇冠体育鈥檚 and the collaborating university beyond participants directly involved in the project.
- Show evidence of feasibility and long-term sustainability.
- Implement a new deliverable or initiative that has not yet been funded by 皇冠体育鈥檚.
皇冠体育鈥檚 priority regions include Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia and Southeast Asia. Funding is also available for collaborations related to global engagement and Indigenous Peoples with universities outside of Canada. Please note: travel by 皇冠体育鈥檚 faculty members to regions of the world with 鈥渁void non-essential travel鈥 and 鈥渁void all travel鈥 under is not eligible under this fund. Some restrictions may be placed on collaborations with institutions in countries that are subject to sanctions or specific research security guidelines by the Government of Canada or Government of Ontario.
All successful applicants will be invited to work with the 皇冠体育鈥檚 Immigration Consultant, to discuss Visa arrangements. 皇冠体育鈥檚, however, is ultimately not responsible for the success of Principal鈥檚 Global Fellow Visa applications.
If your collaborator is not appointed at an existing 皇冠体育鈥檚 partner, we require an institutional MOU to be developed.
